Volvo’s 12 months or 18,000 miles is workable, but the item to respect is the crankcase breather system: it clogs quietly with age and short-trip use, pressurises the crankcase and then pushes oil out of several gaskets at once. Replacing gaskets without fixing the breather, the classic misdiagnosis, wastes everyone’s money. We check breather condition as routine on higher-mileage Volvos, which is why our Volvo customers rarely see the multi-leak surprise.

London driving and your Volvo

Heavy SUVs work their brakes hard in traffic, so discs and pads are honest consumables on XC60s and XC90s; we fit weight-rated parts, not bargain-bin items, because on a two-tonne car that difference is measurable in metres. Diesel D3s and D4s need their monthly sustained run for the particulate filter. Buying a used Volvo?
