Servicing schedule that a Land Rover demands

JLR quotes long intervals, up to 21,000 miles on some engines, and we will say it plainly: those intervals are optimistic for London use. The 2.0 Ingenium diesel’s timing chain lives or dies by oil condition, and the cars we see with chain trouble are almost always long-interval cars. Our standing advice for Ingenium engines in town: oil and filter every 10,000 miles or annually, whichever comes first. It is the difference between a £300 habit and a £3,000 repair.

London driving and your Land Rover

Air suspension hates speed bumps taken carelessly and short trips that never let the compressor rest; if one corner settles overnight, book it that week, because a failing air spring worked hard kills the compressor too, doubling the bill. DPF and AdBlue systems on diesels need regular sustained runs; the school-run-only Discovery is the classic AdBlue-warning patient.

Buying a used Land Rover?

Never buy one without history, and read the MOT record line by line: suspension advisories, repeated emissions entries and mileage gaps tell you more than the seller will. Budget for the oil-change habit from day one. A well-kept example is a superb thing; a neglected one is a subscription to our workshop, and we say that as the workshop.

What it costs to run
